Beautiful ending for this series! I liked the fact that Yan Xing was tricked into the marriage and accepted it when she found Shen Du ‘left’ out of frustration. I loved it !
Came across of one of the interviews that the leads did together and thought it’d be nice to share. They mentioned the snow scenes were all real snow! The timing just happened to be perfect and it snowed heavily when they were there at Hengdian to film. And since both of them came from regions that rarely snow that much, they enjoyed filming those scenes, especially the snow fight.
Final episode was quite satisfying since they wrapped up everything. Things were pretty much explained in the last few episodes. Overall, I think the execution of the mystery behind those cases could have been better. A lot of characters and events were dumped on the viewers altogether too quickly before previous incidents have been made clear. Maybe the confusion was intended, but for me, it wasn’t a bonus point. While I did enjoy the mysteries, the confusion got a little frustrating, especially with Lai’s character.
But like I mentioned in earlier episode, perhaps it’s because it was hard to believe that Lai was the ultimate villain. At least things were clarified properly in the end, so it all made sense.
Since this was a lower budget drama, I think they did the best with what they could. It was overall an enjoyable one, though I found myself watching the later episodes in 2x speed. I was drawn in by the synopsis, plus ML is Ryan Ding, lol. But FL’s character turned out to be a favorable one and the leads kept me watching.
Character wise, I really like Shen Du and Yan Xing. Both characters grew on me instantly. Though some criticized Yan Xing’s character, I think she’s been quite a refreshing FL. As a young FL, she isn’t the cutesy bubbly type, but someone who’s rather grounded. I really like that. And even though she’s opinionated, determined, and very independent (which are also the strengths I love about her), she also listens to reasons. She may argue with Shen Du and act stubbornly sometimes because she can be led by her emotions, but from her perspective, she’s got a point. But after calming down, she always reflects on her actions or her words and find the problem. Another thing I really like about her is her self-awareness and how she knows her value. Overall, I think the actress carried the role really well.
As for Shen Du, he’s the typical perfect ML, but thanks to Ryan Ding’s acting, his character didn’t feel boring. I really like how Shen Du never doubts Yan Xing’s abilities and is proud of her. But the biggest charm is definitely how Ryan Ding portrayed him. I also think the wardrobe and make up department definitely did a good job because he looks more mature and manly here, befitting his role. Some complained that he doesn’t look the same in this drama and didn’t like it, but I really like it!! His bright and youthful roles are cute, but to see him in a role like this was truly splendid.
Another character I really like is of course Pan Chi!!! He’s definitely one of the most non-toxic characters who has unrequited love from the FL. He was such a fun character to watch. Have said this and will say it again, I really like his friendship with Yan Xing! And he was never pushy with her to reciprocate his feelings.
Mystery wise, they were intriguing enough, but some parts became a little too draggy. Repeating certain events was inevitable to show the moth cult’s MO. But when that happened, the pace wasn’t fast enough, and too much back-and-forth went on. I think if they gave this a faster pace instead of making it slow burn, it might have been more exciting.
Romance wise, I enjoyed the overall journey of their relationship. From being hostile to each other, trying to outwit each other, to slowly caring for each other, loving each other, to eventually finding out the truth, and supporting each other. Didn’t like the frustrating breakup trope, but I guess it had to be there for that makeup wedding I knew was gonna happen! Lol
Honestly, if it weren’t for the leads, I wouldn’t have stayed until the end. The villain arc wasn’t engaging enough, and the QD felt pretty useless and frustrating at times. But was it worth my time watching? I’d say it was. Will I watch it again though? Don’t think so. Haha. There were of course plot holes here and there, and the characters, even the leads, weren’t consistent sometimes. But I can look past all that and still enjoy this in the end. It wasn’t the best, but it’s watchable if you like the leads, especially. I started this only being interested in Ryan Ding, but quickly became a fan of Ancy Deng.
